Screen printing involves creating a stencil (printers call this a "screen") and then using that stencil to apply layers of ink on the printing surface. Each color is applied using a different stencil, one at a time, combined to achieve the final look.

The advantages of screen printing;

  • the inks come in a wide range of colors
  • the inks are matchable with Pantone's
  • the price is very inexpensive for larger runs

The disadvantages of screen printing;

  • there is a setup fee per color of $25 each
  • the printing is based on 50 lines per inch not dots per inch
  • blending is not ideal
